In today’s world, E-Business has in many ways created excellent Management information systems (MIS) that allows travelling as simple as a click of a button. Organisations such as Skyscanner make this possible with their state of art Databases, Processing systems and software. Tourism information system (TIS) management is profoundly the most necessary reason to manage TIS. Travellers today do not have time to deal with disorganised information, therefore, organisations such as Skyscanner must continue to implement new strategies on how to organise traveller information, present products and services in a clear and consistent manner. (Sheldon, 1997). With this in mind, these E-Businesses rely strongly on the importance of social media, mobile devices and cloud computing. The digital travel market is growing at a rapid rate. In 2015 alone, $152 billion was raked up through western Europe with a worldwide figure of $533 billion (Charlton, 2016). Organisations in the travel industry rely profoundly on Information system strategies (ISS) to all aspects of the business environment which if managed effectively, will result in high efficiency within the company, reduce unwanted costs, obtain competitive advantage (O’Brien and Marakas 2008). The implementation process of an ISS is where many issues may arise while in the process of building information systems if bad decision making occurs. In this context, the following challenges and risks may arise throughout a tourism organisations (MIS). Managerial ChallengesA successful MIS in this dynamic tourism business is relied heavily on maximising mobile and internet-based technologies and web information systems in order to meet competitor standards of their customers, the suppliers and other business partners in this field but challenges will appear. Therefore, the success of an IS should not only be measured by its efficiency in terms of costs and time but also the effectiveness of how these decisions will support the overall strategy. In the tourism sector, if an IS is not effective and efficient with its purpose, challenges may occur (O’Brien and Marakas 2008). Ethical ChallengesOften enough, ethical responsibilities will occur throughout organisations without a doubt in the tourism sector between government laws, religion and taxes. Implementing strong CRM strategies, HRM laws and Business intelligence will help prevent ethical run ins. Computer crime, tourism scams, and hacking into IS is a high risk but with efficient and effective security applied, these occurrences will be minimised. Hackers can access very high-end security information such as web servers, passwords and credit card information if trespassed a tourism database like Skyscanner (O’Brien and Marakas 2008). Human ChallengesHuman issues occur within organisations more often than not. Challenges such as applying the right education to staff, recruiting the right staff, and the lack of computer skills are some of the difficulties that occur within MIS today. Failure to hire the right staff will lead to organisational risks. The dynamic of the tourism industry today shows that technology is ever growing and by acquiring the right recruitment team to an organisation with the knowledge of Cloud Computing, Programming and up to date IT skills is of profound importance to a tourism industry like Skyscanner who rely on technology as the core of their organisation (Almalki, Al-fleit and Zafar 2017). Technical ChallengesThe Hardware and Software aspects of MIS are often lead to a variety of challenges especially in regard to a multi-billion organisation like Skyscanner. Challenges such as updating databases, software and information is often seen as a difficulty (Almalki et al. 2017). References:
