“Information system is a combination of various subsystems that coordinate with each other to collectively gather, store, manage, retrieve, distribute, and transfer information. Information systems help businesses to enhance their productivity by increasing the efficiency and value of business processes”. (Porter & Millar 1985). Information system is a chain of elements that must be working together to achieve success. It is a powerful tool that will help you and your organisation to make the right use of the data collected and needed. However, the Challenges are existent and there are many of them that the institutions have to be aware of when using it. Usability is the biggest problem for MIS. This tool most of the times fail because the user interface is way too complex, which becomes too hard to get useful and relevant results, or even the results are right, but not generated in the correct way by the system.
For that reason, is very important to check for these issues before starting to use Information System, “As MIS helps the managers to understand the problems and find the solutions”. A training should be made for the staff to be able of generate relevant reports with the smallest effort possible, as the lack of Information and understanding from the staff is also a big challenge. Markgraf (2018) Another problem for MIS is the maintenance, Choosing the right Management System for your business is essential, to avoid extra processing and consequently, lower value of your data. The provision of raw data input and maintenance of up-to date information is a key obstacle for MIS. Your company generates data on everything, sales, payments, expenses, and other essential information, the right tool is vital for your company, as decisions will be made based on the data available. Markgraf (2018) In addition to that, changes is also a challenge to consider. The available data may change, the results could also change and, often, the personal analysing the information also changes, so the company need to be able to adapt with the changes.
